OneWeb Innovation Challenge winner 2021

Krucial (formely R3-IoT) has been named as an Industrial Partner winner in the OneWeb Innovation Challenge 2021.

More than 300 applicants from 19 countries put forward innovations and solutions designed to challenge existing mindsets and build new business partnership opportunities by identifying new innovations for future Low Earth Orbit Satellite Communications technologies. Submissions were assessed on innovation, feasibility, and scalability.

Winners were announced on 1st July, during the live stream of the launch flight ST33 – which saw thirty-one satellites launched to complete the constellation in the Northern hemisphere allowing broadband connectivity to some of the most remote regions on the planet.

Kevin Quillien, CTO and co-founder at Krucial said:

“We are delighted to be named as an Industrial Partner winner in OneWeb’s Innovation Challenge. Not only does it provide further validation of our business model and technology, but most importantly it recognises the hard work and dedication of our talented team.

“We welcome the opportunity to work closely with OneWeb as we continue to develop and commercialise our solution, ahead of market launch later this year.

“Our technology has been developed with support from both the UK Space Agency, and European Space Agency – clear recognition of its potential to broaden the reach of satellite technologies by focusing on the ‘missing piece’ in digitalisation.

“Combining our strengths, we can provide intelligent data solutions that extend beyond connectivity. We aim to unlock new opportunities in key industrial sectors across the globe who will benefit greatly from intelligent end-to-end connectivity solutions.”

Krucial was one of five companies named as overall Industrial Partner winners, which also included Morpheus Space, Mbryonics, Oledcomm, and IRT Saint Exupéry.

The challenge which launched in April, invited individuals, researchers, subject matter experts and organisations large and small across the globe to help reshape existing mindsets and share innovative technologies, products and solutions, that will advance the world of satellite connectivity and space-based communications.

Winners will receive the opportunity to work on OneWeb’s satellite programme and drive the future of space communications.

The Innovation Challenge is part of OneWeb’s innovation programme to foster smart new innovations in space communications for the benefit of everyone on Earth – responsibly, sustainably, and together. Find out more.
